Tailoring isn’t always a cheap pastime but it also doesn’t have to break the bank, but this does lead to a question… What exactly are you paying for and how does this differ to ‘off the peg’ suits?
Let’s look at off the peg suiting…
What do you get with off the peg?
- A pre-determined set styled suit
- Unknown cloth details/make
- Mass produced production line tailoring
- Uncertain fit and quality
- Possibly a hanger
- Maybe a smile when you take it to the till
- Anything that isn’t sold often gets sent to landfill
What about the cost?
Well, we did a little research and the typical starting price for a two-piece suit from the mid to top end of the high street was over £500.
How about quality?
There is no doubt that an off the peg suit, won’t fit as well, won’t be made as well and certainly won’t last as long as a tailored suit.
For reference our fully tailored suits start from £750.
Ask yourself, with off the peg are you really getting value for money?
So, what is a H&H tailored suit offering you?
Here comes the breakdown.
- The cloth and linings are individually ordered and purchased to order
- Premium cloths. High quality and made in the UK.
- The suit trimmings are a cut above. High quality clasps, zips and canvasses along with many other internal materials that just aren’t even part of an off the peg suit.
- We take full body measurements to create your one-off suit.
- If it’s a full bespoke then we draft and cut a pattern for each bespoke customer
- Individual time with each customer going through the design and stylings of the suit and selecting the right cloth
- Full suit design, not just choosing from what is available
- Time and skill in making the suit across our team of tailors
- Top quality tailoring, not mass-produced copycat suits.
- Midway fittings on Bespoke and semi bespoke garments before the suit is finished.
- Final fittings and adjustments
- Pressing
- Wide shouldered hanger and Suit bags for storage and transport
- Follow up care (a relationship, not a transaction)
- One on one time with the tailor, at sale, fitting and collection.
- Only what is required is made and purchased, no waste and much better for the environment
We could go on but I think you get the idea.
Yes, full bespoke tailoring is an investment, it’s not something to be done lightly, but for each suit upwards of 100 hours has been spent making sure your suit is a perfect hand-crafted one-off piece that will last you for years.
Of course, we know that bespoke tailoring isn’t for everyone and that’s why we have our other options of Semi bespoke and made to measure. There is tailoring to suit all budgets (yes there was the expected pun).
Off the peg is restrictive and isn’t cheap, it really is only a short jump up to getting your own tailored suit where the benefits to you are huge. We would always recommend coming in for a relaxed chat, there’s no pressure, its free and the coffee is good. Sounds like a rather pleasant way to spend your time and a much wiser way to spend your money.
