New Year, New You?

by | Dec 20, 2024

Why are we encouraged to think that with a new year there is meant to be a new you?

Of course, with any milestone date or life event it’s a perfect time to take stock and have a think about things in your life but a new you?

Obviously, we are a tailors, so I’m not going to get too philosophical, I’ll keep it to clothes if that’s ok, but in 2025 do you need to be a new you when it comes to your wardrobe?

Of course not.  Clothing shouldn’t be thrown away or ignored because we have clicked past 31st December but it certainly doesn’t hurt to serve as a reminder to give it the once over.

Gone are the days where we swap our winter clothes for the spring wardrobe, except for in a few case I’m sure, but generally speaking we tend to spend our clothing budget on items that are multi-purpose and multi season too, sensible spending some would say, but the down side of this can be that we do get a little set in our ways and at times perhaps a little safe in how we dress too.

So why not take the new year as a point to go through the drawers and wardrobes and see what’s still working for you, what might have seen better days and what new items you’d like to add in to your usual offerings.

Even just adding a few new shirts or T shirts can really breath a bit of life in to the day-to-day outfits, maybe adding in a new jacket to go with that pair of chinos you hardly wear or getting a new pair of classic slacks might bring that sports jacket back out of the wardrobe!

Essentially, a new year is a great time to take stock and have a think about what you like to wear and what new things you might want to try but there is no need to throw the baby out with the bath water. Fashions come and go but style is eternal and having spent time finding your own look why on earth would you cast it all aside in January.

As people like to say these days, you do you, don’t worry about changing everything. Cast an eye over what you have and spend your money sensibly and wisely and I’m sure the same you will be more than a match for the new year.
